BIOGRAPHY

Sherie Lake Aguirre, recently retired, began her career as Principal oboist of the Virginia Symphony in 1987. She graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelor’s degree in Performance and continued her graduate studies with Ray Still at Northwestern University.

Ms. Aguirre held principal positions with the Singapore Symphony, La Sinfonica de Maracaibo, La Sinfonica de Tenerife, and La Sinfonica de Madrid. She appeared regularly as soloist with the VSO and performed frequently in the Chamber Music series of the Virginia Arts Festival. From 1990 to 1997 she spent her summers in Boulder, performing with the Colorado Music Festival. Ms. Aguirre has also performed and recorded several CD’s with the Palm Beach Chamber Music Festival in Florida. 

Sherie also maintains a private teaching studio full of young, local, talented oboe students in addition to fulfilling adjunct faculty positions at William and Mary College and Old Dominion University.
